UHF Citizen Band Channel Chart

The 476MHz band is divided into 40 channels, these channel numbers are standard throughout Australia (New Zealand has different channel numbers). Channels 1 to 8 inclusive are allocated for repeater operation exclusively with channel 5 reserved for emergency use, this also means that channels 31 to 38 inclusive are utilised for the reverse repeater channels. Channels 9 to 30 inclusive and channels 39 and 40 are allocated for simplex or "point to point" operation.
Various channels within the simplex section have assumed popularity for certain activities, these are:
Channel 11 - a calling frequency to establish an annonymous contact.
Channel 40 - Highway "Trucks'.
Channel 18 - Caravans.
Channel 27 - Pacific Highway..
QVVA usually use Channel 14, depending on radio traffic at the time.

The Great Gatsby

27 November 2007

What is the historical background to the "Great Gatsby",what`s it all about?

The "Great Gatsby" is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It focuses on a young man Jay Gatsby a wealthy New Yorker of indeterminant occupation possibly a "speak easy" who made millions from bootleg alcohol and underground salons in the prohibition era. Gatsby resided in the Long Island district of West Egg ,however he falls in love with a woman of the social elite of East Egg, he threw lavish parties every weekend in an effort to win her hand but no matter how he tried his wealth could not afford him the priveleges enjoyed by those born into the upper class. Tthe author describes in great detail their high fashon, beautiful clothing, lavish parties, ostentatious mansions, stylish cars, -- money was of no consideration hence the word "Great" was associated with anything Gatsby organised. This was the Roaring Twenties also known as the Jazz Age. It is not hard to conjure up in ones mind what a Great Gatsby Picnic would be like --long cars to long cigarette holders, fine bone china, the best silverware and twenties fashon like you wouldn't beleive. The 2010 QVVA Great Gatsby Weekend will be held on 18th-19th Sept in conjunction with the First Settlement Festival at Redcliffe.

New Photo Album

1 December 2007

Picture Web Site

For many years the club has kept a photographic record of members cars, these albums are kept in the library and, thanks to the forethought of the foundation members, are now an historic record of nearly every car that has been involved with the club. We are due for another request for photographs of recently restored or acquired cars to keep these permanent records up to date.
Trevor Johnsson has established a "free web page" to allow members to post photographs of their current pride and joy, it is intended this collection be changed periodically so that it is a collection of current cars independent to the hard copy albums.
To view this web site go to--www.picturetrail.com/QVVA-- this will open two albums, one containing cars and the other containing club activities, click on the pictures button in each album and after a short time you will be able to view all the pictures in that album.
To have a photograph of your car on this web site, simply email the digital image to Trevor on --johnsson@powerup.com.au-- alternatively he can scan a photograph, don`t forget to mention the year, make and model written on the back of the photograph.

Queensland Historic Motoring Council (QHMC)

13 January 2010

Name Change

During 2009 the former Queensland Combined Council of Historical Vehicle Clubs (QCCHVC) went through a consultation process with it`s clubs over several months. This culminated in a vote which agreed to formally change the name to Queensland Historic Motoring Council (QHMC), effective in late June 2009. The old nickname "Combined Council" was convenient but meant nothing to anyone outside the old car movement. "Historic Motoring Council" by comparison is self explanatory and is now accepted nationally.
